“I was born in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in 1973. Nowadays, it’s just called Mauritania. I came to the Netherlands when I was 25. I can still remember my first visit to Amsterdam very clearly. The city was extremely busy and I was very impressed by the trams and underground. I had never seen a public transport system like it.
I am concierge at the Aslan music centre in Amsterdam West, close to the Rembrandt Park. I enjoy sports, mainly outdoor ones; I love running and cycling through the city.
It’s when I’m cycling along the canals, especially in the summer, that I am reminded of Mauritania.”
