“I’m at school here in order to learn Dutch as I only speak Susu. I was born in Guinea. My mother died when I was very young and my aunt brought me up. My father lived here, in Amsterdam.
Three years ago I came here, too, for a better future. I travelled on an aeroplane for the very first time. I screamed! I thought it was really scary. At Schiphol I ran to my father shouting, “papa, papa!”. All I did was scream and cry.
I go to school here and I really like it. We even went to the theatre. In Guinea I never went to school. I walk to school with my father every day. He can cook really well. He always asks me what I want to eat when I get home so when I get home dinner is ready. Then he’ll make something like chicken fillets. Delicious. Even though I miss African food.”
59 people in Amsterdam have the Guinean nationality
